I knew I wanted to go to Istanbul from the beginning. It was one of the few places on my list of "must-sees" when Jo and I initially mapped out our trip. When looking at Jordan and Iraq, flights to Turkey made logical sense at a great price, so it fit into my plans nicely. After talking with Tahli, I turned my adventure through Turkey into an archaeological tour. Turkey was one of those countries whose individual history was deeply intertwined with all of humanity. Some people tried to warn me off going because of the ongoing anti-Israel protests popping up across the world, but Turkey was a big country. My experience thus far had proved that as much as these countries and their citizens didn't like Israel, they hated losing Western tourism dollars more, so I threw everyone else's cautions to the wind and spent the first three weeks of the new year traveling from one place in history to the next. Besides, I had to leave Iraq anyway, and there were only so many options out of Erbil.
